Re: Ending 2018 Campaign for Governor of New York

Date: March 21, 2018

Dear Friends,

After much thoughtful consideration, we’ve decided to end our campaign for the 2018 Democratic gubernatorial primary. Another candidate has stepped forward and she clearly has the resources and infrastructure that are needed to secure a place on the ballot and win. I’m proud of what we have achieved, and I am looking forward to working with Ms. Nixon and everyone else who shares my commitment to making government work better for all the people of New York State.

For the last seven months we’ve been touring the state delivering one simple message: It’s time to return our state government back to its rightful owners, the People of New York.

We’ve shared our vision: a government that fully funds our public schools, single-payer health care, and mass transit. We’ve discussed the necessity of reforming our regressive tax code so that millionaires and billionaires pay their fair share. We’ve spoken out against the systemic racism that exists within our justice system. We’ve stood with activists to fight against the continued threats of fossil fuels on our environment. I’m especially proud to say we have done all of this without accepting a single corporate contribution. We were able to do all of this because of your support. Thank you!

From Brooklyn to Buffalo and Rochester to Yonkers, and so many other towns in between, we met amazing people like you. We are grateful for what we learned from you on this incredible journey. Together, we put pressure on a system that is designed to resist change and I’m honored to have stood with you. Thank you for your support and encouragement; we could not have made it this far without you.

I remain committed to fighting for the truth, justice, and equality that we all deserve, and I hope that we can find more ways to work together and achieve these goals in the future.

Please keep in touch. We have a lot of work to do!

Terry
